Future of Crossmichael Church

It is likely that the Church of Scotland is going to put Crossmichael Church up for sale.

In order to help us consider what, if anything, the community should do about this, the Community Council and Crossmichael Community Trust together commissioned an Options Appraisal from Community Enterprise, an experienced community development organisation.  On the basis of a public meeting, facilitated by Community Enterprise, they have now issued a report containing an analysis of various options for our consideration.

The report is available here

Responses to the report, and any further ideas for the church's future, are welcome. You can send them either to the Community Council (email here), or to the Community Trust (email here).

Glenkens & District Trust Community Action Plan

The Community Action Plan, commissioned by Glenkens & District Trust from independent consultants, Community Enterprise, is now available. The objective of this work was to produce a short, concise document that sets out a clear vision for the area with priorities, either projects or service provision, that are supported by local people and a timeline for achieving them. The Community Action Plan is intended to be aspirational but also fundable and deliverable. It is backed up by a detailed report giving the underlying data and evidence for the identified priorities. This report is available for community groups across the area to use to support funding applications, either to the Blackcraig Wind Farm Community Fund or to other funding bodies.
In addition, Glenkens & District Trust will also use the output of this work to help identify priorities for the Blackcraig Wind Farm Community Fund which will enable it to allocate money as effectively as possible in the long term interests of the community and to meet identified community needs.

During the finalisation of the Action Plan, it became clear that, as a result of the Covid-19 emergency, it is going to be difficult - and probably dangerous - to make plans for future community development that are set in stone; we need to be flexible and to build in mechanisms for on-going revisions where necessary. It also became clear that in some aspects of the Plan, further work is necessary to identify specific projects that will help deliver on aspirations, and specific groups and organisations that are in a position to deliver them. Glenkens & District Trust have therefore appointed Community Enterprise, working with local consultants, Sleeping Giants, to produce an implementation plan. They will do this through a process of close consultation with the community, and aim to publish a revised, more detailed version of the Action Plan by the Spring of 2021.

The current version of the Action Plan can be found here.
